Our Mission

Create streetwear with zero social and ecological impact.

When we started in 1994 in Italy, street culture did not exist and streetwear did not exist, we are in the times of the first pioneers of the various subcultures that would later take hold until they became mainstream. We were the first to import oversized fit and baggy pants from America, which then became our pride and joy. Despite the numerous initial rejections, we became a reference point in Europe for Streetwear and Street culture of the 2000s.

Over 20 years later, streetwear is part of the norm, to the point that even fashion brands that have always denigrated this way of dressing now copy it and produce garments in that style. Today, just like 30 years ago, we distance ourselves from the rest of the fashion landscape by producing our garments with the style that has always characterized us and with 100% Italian production that is truly sustainable at 360°.

Slow Fashion

Upcycling

Our short supply chain works by respecting the practices of Upcycling and Slow Fashion to reflect our beliefs in terms of sustainability and to leave no trace of our passage on the environment. The production of Broke Clothing items starts from deadstock fabrics sourced from Italian excellence and experimental materials of the highest quality, which allows for not commissioning the production of new fabric, but rather using already produced fabrics.

These fabrics in many cases do not reach the market due to excessive material innovation and the often high costs they entail; in other cases, however, they are the result of overproductions of high-end materials not withdrawn by the clients. The use of these fabrics inevitably affects the size of the productions: each collection is limited edition as the fabrics used are out of production, so there will be no possibility to repeat the garment with the same characteristics.

The production is carried out entirely within our region by artisanal laboratories to limit the movement of materials and support local activities; each product is therefore created 100% in Italy. Our short supply chain produces handmade clothing with quality and attention to tailoring details. Another aspect for which Broke Clothing stands out in sustainability is the use of natural treatments on fabrics such as water and pumice stone for denim bleaching.

This attention to detail in the construction of each garment gives the products a longer life and superior durability. This is the profound difference between a quality garment and all the clothing with a very short lifespan created under the logic of fast fashion. One of the changes that we have always promoted at Broke is the paradigm shift from the current production of many garments with a short life to a more sustainable controlled production with garments that have a very long lifespan.

A detail that shows how far we go with the reuse we practice at Broke Clothing is the use of industrial paper scraps directly reprinted for the creation of the pendants that accompany each garment. This simply allows us not to throw away paper and to use it without treatments for another purpose.

30 years of Streetwear Culture

PHILOSOPHY

The entire process behind the production of every single piece of Broke Clothing has a value that cannot be measured by the parameters of Fast fashion or more generally of industrial production.

We bring to life a 100% Italian high-quality product and for this reason, we do not offer discounts and do not participate in mass consumption events that involve depreciation dictated by a consumption logic. However, we do give members of the Broke Family the opportunity to access benefits at the launch of collections or for other special events.
